Prized Accomplishment(s):
I became Principal of an AICTE Approved Engineering College at the age of 37 years only and still continuing to hold that position as on date.
Done Differently:
I would have become a businessman rather than a service professional,though I would still concentrate on academics in that case as well.
Growth Strategy:
I am always in the process of producing good staff members who tend to follow me and prosper in their life. This helps me grow further and further everyday.
Involvement in the Industry
1. Produced quality student who did BTech, MTech and PhD under my guidance and then became Faculty of an IIT.
2. I inculcated the habit of discipline in my previous institution.
The Decisions That Matter
The first important decision in my career was to visit The University of Western Ontario, London, Canada during 2006-07 for Post Doctoral research work under the able supervision of Late Prof Dr Allan G Davenport, popularly known as the Doyen in Wind Engineering.
The second important decision in my career was to join LNCT Indore as the Principal in 2010.
Changes In The Professional Environment:
Well, it has changed a lot; specially after the introduction of Private players in academic sector. It has taken a more professional shape and people have become more concerned about quality.
Professional Strengths:
I really enjoy administration. This is very much essential if you are into administration as because it takes a lot of pain and perspiration to get success in each and every small issues arising each and everyday.
Required Reading:
It all depends on the stream in which the person is doing research.
Career Profile:
My current role is to look after the overall academic activities as well as administrative activities of my institution. This includes but not limited to: chalk out and execute plans to run the academic courses smoothly in the institution, prepare for accreditation by NAAC, NBA etc, assign responsibilities to teaching as well as non-teaching staff and follow up, inculcate good habits amongst students and staff, etc etc.
Plans For The Future:
Obviously in a better position.
Advice For New Professionals:
Be honest to yourself, sincere to your duties and keep your eyes wide open.
Role Model:
My role model is my Post Doc Guide Late Prof Alan Davenport, who was a 'Living Legent' in wind engineering when I came in touch with him. I worked in 30 billion dollar lab, which was his brainchild and the lab was named after him when he was alive and directing the other researchers.
The Journey So Far:
I left the corporate world pretty early. I worked in Philips India Ltd for about 14 months just after my graduation. After that, I continued in the academic sector till date.
Working Life Management:
Well, tricky question...but it is very much necessary. What I do is forget all official issues while with the family or friends so that they don't get bored while passing their valuable time with me.
Degrees That Matter:
Yes, PhD is a must if you are into academics.
