Nina Davuluri-The First Indian Origin Beauty to Win Miss America
Bangalore: Nina Davuluri, 24, was crowned with Miss America title on the 15th of September. She is the first contestant of Indian heritage to win this beauty pageant, reports Rediff.
The contest was judged based on each contestant’s gowns, lifestyle, talent, a personal interview and an on-stage question. Davuluri walked the runway in a canary-yellow evening gown, as she waved and wiped away her tears of joy after being announced as the winner.
The Indian American beauty made a glorious remark with her witty and bold attitude when she was asked to give an insight on plastic surgery. She said she was against plastic surgery, but said that people should make their own choices and if they think it would make them more confident through appearances, they should go ahead with it.
In the talent round, Nina showcased a classical Bollywood fusion dance piece as her talent. To honor her Indian roots, Nina has had formal training in Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam dance for the past 15 years and has worked with choreographer Nakul Dev Mahajan, for the popular television show ‘So You Think You Can Dance’.
