Bangalore: To express support for a “clean” Immigration Reform Bill with no discriminatory provisions, five former U.S. Ambassadors to India have written to the U.S. Congress stating, the visa provisions should not harm American or Indian interests, reports TNN.

The former American envoys – Thomas R. Pickering, Frank G. Wisner, Richard Celeste, David C. Mulford and Robert Blackwill stated in the letter addressed to the U.S. lawmakers, “While we believe that the U.S. Congressional efforts to further Comprehensive Immigration Reform can be of great benefit, we are concerned that the high-skilled visa provisions in legislation currently contemplated by the Senate are not in US economic interests and they complicate our relations with India.”

The letter was written to U.S. House of representatives and the former envoy also requested the officials to consider their requests before the preparation of the final bill. The group also wants the bill to support growth of US-India knowledge economy.

The American and Indian relationship greatly depends on the commercial ties and the decision the U.S. Congress approves should help in developing mutual benefit between the two nations.
