Her message is "celebrating diversity through cultural competency," and Davuluri has had to chase out a lot of misconceptions concerning her culture. Davuluri has battled with bulimia and weight troubles, and claims that she has lost 60 pounds prior to becoming Miss New York.

Despite achieving the tag of Miss America, the dusky beauty aims to become something more in the future. Nina aspires to become a physician like her father and states that she would love to attend Upstate Medical University.

Born to Telugu parents, Nina is an origin of Syracuse, and was moved to Oklahoma at age 4 and later to Michigan. She holds a degree in brain behaviour and cognitive science from the University of Michigan and with her 'Type A personality', she believes that she is organized and can take up a physician course.
