Bangalore: Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is one of the most significant festivals in India and the biggest Hindu festival celebrated among many people and communities in America. No matter if these Indians residing in the U.S. left their native years before, they still embrace their tradition and celebrations.

Rochester Century High School witnessed one of the most vibrant Diwali celebrations on Sunday, with hundreds of Indians performing traditional Indian dance and music, before a large crowd. Apart from being a platform for entertainment, the celebration was successful in conveying the story of India’s rich culture.

"We grew up in India, but our children are growing up here. We want them to stay connected with the culture, more importantly the good things, the festive things, the joyous things," said Ananaha Kollengode, one of the organizers of the event, as reportrd by KAALtv.

The idea is not just to teach the younger Indian generation about our culture, but to pass on the knowledge to the greater Rochester community. "We try to engage non-indians. Americans, Asians, Europeans. We like them to come in here and it's always sharing the culture right," said Deepak Narayanan.

The Hindu Samaj Temple and Rochester Vidhalaya sponsored the event.
