Yahoo! Open Hack 2012 Saw the Largest Number of Participants
After the expert talks, Eric Suhonen, an internet executive at Yahoo!, with the words “Let’s Hack”, kicked off the 24-hour coding marathon, in which participants in teams of up to four had to turn their ideas into a “hack”, which according to one of the participant from IIM Calcutta, is finding a practical solution to a problem. With those words of Suhonen, the giant digital clock started ticking and the hackers were straightaway hands-on, displaying the whole dexterity on their laptops.
Developers were provided with tools like YUI, YQL, Mojito, geo-location and Flickr APIs, of which they had to bring use of at least one along with their own choice of platform and languages. The themes under which the applications had to be developed were Multi-device experiences, Digital Media & Advertising and Digital Communications. Also for those who wanted to build something other than these, there was a Surprise Us category that allowed hackers to surprise the juries with their amazing technical skills by building something unexpected.
