Yahoo! Open Hack 2012 Saw the Largest Number of Participants

The event ended at 12:30 pm and the shortlisted entries were demoed and the Grand prize of 5th Open Hack, which saw 7% women hackers, was won by Amod Kumar Pandey and Nikhil Baliga. They built a simple and intuitive tool “Brock”, that allows even non-developers to write code with only a couple of mouse-clicks and build very useful mini-apps for their Android devices. The team will now be invited to attend the Yahoo! Hack event in Cannes in 2013. Second prize was won by a team who developed “Pictrendz”, an attractive, flowing, web sourced image visualization. Other prizes were won by projects named, “Beam OS”, “BookMafia” and a Browser based hack to counter physical vibrations on Mobile devices, to improve readability. “I am Bored” won the prize in the Surprise Us category.

Yahoo! Open Hack started in 2006 at Yahoo! headquarters in Sunnyvale with an aim to bring the Yahoo! developers together. So, far Open Hack has been hosted in 7 countries. This was the 5th Open Hack event in India and the 16th for Yahoo! globally.

Yahoo! later announced that this was one of the most successful hackathon in India with the largest number of hackers staying overnight and around 172 hacks submitted.
