Facial Recognition Technology Launched In India, Helps Catch Criminals

Bangalore:  Voice of Big Data (VOBD), an US-based data analytics and business intelligence solutions with its offshore in India will reportedly launch its flagship product ‘Facial Signature’ in the coming year.

By being one of the first players in India to launch 3D facial recognition product, VOBD claims to help the investigating squad to identify criminals by using its data analytics tool. Since the ‘Facial Signature’ is currently in Beta testing phase, the Company said it will be launched in the U.S. market first.

The “facial Signature” is said to be 90% accurate, the company claims. The application uses an algorithm to recognize 80 nodal points on a person’s face. This makes it possible to recognize a person even in a disguise or when wearing a veil or a ‘Burkha’.

Karuna Gopal, advisor for VOBD stated that they have aided the police in analyzing the 25 terabytes data accumulated during the Dilsukh Nagar bomb blasts.

Reports say that the Company has invested about two lakhs U.S. dollars for the project and will further invest 14 lakh U.S. dollars by March 2015 and 6 lakh U.S. Dollars by March 2014.
