Zuckerberg- Top Philanthropist Of The U.S., Donates $1 Billion

Bangalore: Mark Zuckerberg, the Facebook CEO has topped the U.S. philanthropists-charity-giving-list of 2013 by donating nearly $1 billion to the Silicon Valley Foundation, a comprehensive center of philanthropy.  It uses the donations to advance innovative philanthropic solutions to challenging problems, engaging donors to make their region and world a better place for all. The donation made by Mark Zuckerberg with his wife Priscilla Chan is about 992 million dollars including 18 million from Facebook shares.

“He is the first person to top the list of biggest donors below the age of 30,” says the annual charitable giving list released by Chronicle Of Philanthropy. The Zuckerberg has also made donation to Silicon Valley Foundation in 2012 with 18 million shares of Facebook stock, but that year the shares were valued to less than 500 million dollars.

According to Newsmax, Zuckerberg is joined by 14 other big ticket donors in the U.S. for the 2013 donation list, including outgoing New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and businessman and political activist David Koch, who were among those giving away at least 100 million dollars of their fortunes at one time.

Zuckerberg has also donated an undisclosed amount to Diaspora, an open source personal web server that implements a distributed social networking service calling it a “cool idea.” He founded the Start-Up Education Foundation, a charitable foundation to "improve educational opportunities for young people in America." It is to support the public school system in the troubled city of Newark, New Jersey. On September 22, 2010, it was reported that he had donated $100 million to Newark Public Schools.

Adding more start to the charity works, Zuckerberg is one among the three who promised to donate to charity at least half of his wealth which is called Giving Pledge, founded by Warren Buffett and Bill Gates.
