Youngsters- The New Target Of Yahoo

Bangalore: Yahoo plans to increase its promotional activities targeting 18 to 34 year olds. It wants to break its reliance on an "aging demographic" and concentrate more on young adults, reports TOI.

The company plans to advertise on outdoor billboards, sporting events and various other places, as it seeks to woo the young crowd in order get the word out about new products, and to gain more presence in the market.

"Part of it is going to be just visibility again in making ourselves cool, which we got away from for a couple of years," said CFO, Ken Goldman.

However, at present, Goldman has no specifics on the company's budget or expenditures, to be spent for advertising across various mediums.

After Marissa Mayer became Yahoo's chief executive in July, the company had a tremendous makeover. She acquired several small start-up companies and launched new versions of key products, like the Yahoo's Web email and its Flickr photo sharing service. Under her supervision Yahoo shares have increased roughly about 70 percent. However, analysts say the rise is due to stock buybacks and the growing value of Yahoo's Asian assets.

Yahoo is trying to bring back its fortune and increase user engagement on its website. However, Yahoo, is facing stiff competition from social networking and mobile websites like Facebook, Twitter and from the search giant Google.
