Website Traffic: Windows losing to iOS

Bangalore: Microsoft’s Windows still retains its top spot in terms of OS usage in spite of steady competition on mobile platforms.

The data, which was based on the browsers which were used to drive traffic to websites, showed that Windows was used by 77.98 percent of the market as of December 2011. 13.15 percent of the market used Mac, which came second lagging behind with a huge difference of 64.83 percent. iOS, Android and other Operating Systems came soon after, with respective percentages of 4.91 percent, 2.65 percent, and 1.32 percent.

The trends, when compared to statistics from June 2011, indicate that while Windows is still dominant, it is losing its stand. In that month, Windows consumed a share of 79.47 percent, which was a few points higher than its share in December. Other browsers still held the same positions, with Mac bagging 13.27 percent of the market coming in second, iOS in third place with 3.59 percent, Android coming fourth with 2.42 percent, and others coming in last on the chart.

Business Insider’s report stated that around six years ago, Windows had a market share that amounted to a whopping 90 percent. Six years hasn’t changed much, but what do you think the future will hold? Will windows continue to remain on top?
