Internet Giants Google, Facebook, Amazon Form Lobbying Group

Bangalore: The tech world has recently witnessed an unimaginable scenario- The union of some of biggest rivals in the industry. Don’t think they are going to put down the swords forever. It’s just for defending a common enemy- regulatory and the political issues.

The group is named Internet Association, which was formed by companies including Google, Facebook, Amazon, eBay, Yahoo and some other internet companies for lobbying to tackle the regulatory and political issues in Washington like matters of privacy and piracy and allocation of visas for engineers.

The group also has some other internet companies like Expedia, Zynga, LinkedIn and Monster Worldwide.

"It is the Internet's decentralized and open model that has unleashed unprecedented entrepreneurialism," said Michael Beckerman, the president of the group and the chairman of the US House of Representatives' Energy and Commerce Committee. "Policymakers must understand that the preservation of that freedom is essential to the vitality of the internet itself and the resulting economic prosperity."

The formation of a strong alliance will effectively affect regulations pertaining to revenue repatriation, cyber security, and sales tax. Google and Facebook are the two companies, which have recently speeded up the procedures, where Google lobbied the officials at Federal trade commission which is investigating the internet giant for antitrust issues. Facebook had lobbied in issues regarding online privacy and the allegations related to its poor initial public offering.
