IBM Crowned U.S. Patent King for the 20th Straight Year


Bangalore: Hearing the word ‘Patent’ always makes us wonder about the creative part of person or a company. While people are innovating in various verticals, the technology space never stands behind. With giant companies that has stood the wrath of time over decades are innovating to glory, their patents have also scaled up amazingly surprising people around the globe. The ‘2012 Patent Rankings’ listed out companies with highest number of patents and IBM topped the list pushing behind Samsung and Cannon to second and third positions respectively, reports smh.com.

IBM is ranked first with 6478 registered patents in 2012. The most interesting part with the figures is that, 30 percent of these patents were produced by inventors outside the U.S. Research and development centers of IBM located in Germany, Japan, Canada, the UK and Israel were more productive. Predictions also say that this figure would still shoot up in the future as IBM has new labs in Brazil and Kenya.
