Google To Help Election Commission In 2014 Polls

Bangalore: Registration information which is used to control who votes is made easy with Election Commission of India tie-up with search giant Google even before the political alliance yet to gear up for the 2014 polls.

In coming six months, Google will offer its resources including its search engine to help users check their enrolment status online and locate their polling station, complete with directions using Google Maps, to ease polling. The tie-up is to be finalized late in January and be operational by end of the month.

Thus the only thing people have to do is to type in their names and address on Google Search and find their names matching on the list in the assembly or Lok Sabha constituencies they belong to. This agreement helps not just the EC in making its work simple but it will help the people in clarifying their doubt regarding registration , polling stations etc.

The internet giant is offering similar services to other the other countries of the world. The EC is also apparently planning to take help from Google in announcement of the 2014  election results through its servers in 5 states by the end of May. For the same reason EC has signed an agreement with Akamai a U.S. based IT firm where the ECI would handle the hits on the day of counting.
