Bangalore: Facebook has recently announced its own mobile phone on scheduling a press meet for 4 April.

Shortly after the invitation, TechCrunch, a technology news site has revealed that this is a modified version of Google’s Android OS, consisting of ‘deep native Facebook functionality’.

Besides TechCrunch, “9 to5 Google” has said that Facebook is designing the software for its new Smartphone which is supposed to be made by Taiwan’s HTC.

Facebook invite said the following - “Come See Our New Home on Android”.

However the news of Facebook’s event came in as IDC had released a Facebook-backed study showing that people’s close friends are Smartphones, in the U.S. The study said that U.S. Smartphone owners stay connected to their devices the moment they rise, till they fall asleep. Also, more than 7000 Smartphone users fell in the age range from 18 to 44.

IDC also reported that the top three applications used were messaging, web browsing and Facebook, wherein adoption of a Smartphone to access social networks has become a mainstream.

Zuckerberg has also said that a lot of energy in the ecosystem is going mobile, not desktop. He adds on to say that this is the future and now that Facebook is a mobile company.

However, Facebook has no  intentions to make its Smartphone, trying for a fierce competition in the handset arena.
