Can BlackBerry Regain Its Place in India?

Bangalore: BlackBerry launched its Q10 and Z10 last month and so far the new devices have shown some very innovative applications and features. Some reviews tell us that these new features can define Smartphones from here on and others go on to call it too complicated for the general public.

In the rest of the world BlackBerry competes with the likes of Android and iOS but in India, BlackBerry’s nemesis is WhatsApp!, The social application that filled in for BB Messenger’s absence and lack of upgrades. India has a large market for the BlackBerry using population, just two years back BB Messenger was so popular that students began to buy BlackBerry phones just so that they would not be left out from the most happening gossip and whereabouts even though Facebook was growing rapidly.

That changed with the arrival of the Android and the delay in BlackBerry10’s arrival which was initially due in early 2012, then late 2012 and then 70 billion dollar and 5000 job losses later BlackBerry 10 came out expecting a grand welcome as it was used to in previous years but instead the Android and iPhone users glanced at it like it was an exotic creature. BlackBerry 10’s late arrival in the market has not turned many heads, people are already in their comfort zones with their Android and WhatsApp!, substitutes for what distinguished BlackBerry before, BBM and the Smartphone experience.

BlackBerry 10 has stepped into a market which is hostile and it has to offer something that will force people out of their comfort zones once more, so that they don’t feel like they are going to miss out on something.
