Amazon And HTC Join Hands To Manufacture Smartphones

Bangalore: World’s largest e-commerce site Amazon, and Taiwanese mobile manufacturers HTC are partnering to develop Smartphones, reports Financial Times. The paper also reports that the development of the model is under progress; however reports from other sources say that Amazon may not release the Smartphone, and it’s just a pilot run. The reports solidify earlier rumors on Amazon planning to give a try in the Smartphone market against leading players Apple and Google.

If Amazon moves ahead with the project, the gadget can be expected for launch in 2014. There were no official responses from HTC or Amazon regarding it. The rumors about Amazon releasing a phone was in the air for a long time. Citigroup in 2011 said that Amazon will launch a Smartphone in 2012 partnering with Foxconn International. If Amazon is looking towards Asia for its partners, it is expected to trace the track of Google which launched Nexus series by joining hands with Asus and LG Electronics.
