Pan-STARRS, acronym for Panoramic Srvey Telescope & Rapid Response system is an innovative design for a wide-field imaging facility developed at the University of Hawaii’s Institue for Astronomy. The engineers combined relatively small collection of mirrors with a large digital camera which makes it easier to observe entire available sky.
The objective of Pan-STARRS is to identify and differentiate earth-approaching objects, both asteroids and comets that create danger to Earth. It’s ideal for research, particularly those which involve time inconsistency.
