KP Singh was born on August 15, 1931, in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, into the family of a well-known Jat landowner. He joined the American Universal Electric Company in 1960, a partnership between the Singh family and Universal Electric Company, Owosso (Michigan). The following year, he co-founded "Willard India Limited" with ESB Inc. of Philadelphia to develop the battery sector in India, and he was named the company's managing director.

The American Universal Electric Company "DLF Universal Limited" and K.P. Singh were selected to lead the newly established business in 1979. K.P. Singh started developing the land in Gurgaon (Haryana), according to his designs, while serving as director of the DLF. Singh had the notion to create a tiny community close to Delhi. Therefore he chose to purchase lots. In this enterprise, he was successful. As a result of his improved outlook for the Gurgaon real estate market, it experienced tremendous growth.

On January 26, 2010, He received the Padma Bhushan award from the Indian government, the nation's highest civilian accolade, in appreciation of his outstanding contributions to the real estate sector. The doctor received an honorary doctorate from GB Pant Krishi University.

Fortune Magazine named him the richest guy in the world in 2008 and the eighth richest person on the planet, based on the fortune amassed from running a business. He reportedly received the "Delhi-Ratna" Award from the Delhi Government in recognition of his contribution to developing Delhi's infrastructure. The title of "Summon Patra to pay the largest tax in Delhi region" was given to the Income Tax Department of the Government of India in 2000.

He also serves on the Reserve Bank of India's Central Advisory Committee. He currently serves as the director of over 31 companies that operate in different industries. One of the key sponsors of famous cricket tournaments like the IPL was the corporation DLF.
