USAA, IBM join forces to serve military members * Tech giant IBM has partnered USAA to use IBM Watson technology to help serve military personnel as they transition from military to civilian life.

Developed by IBM, Watson is an artificially intelligent computer system capable of answering questions posed in natural language by humans.

USAA, which provides financial products and advice to 10.4 million current and former members of the US military and their families, is the first to commercialise the use of Watson as a consumer-facing application.

By accessing Watson, USAA members will be able to ask questions related to the transition experience. As per the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, about 155,000 active military members transition to civilian life each year.

IBM Watson analyzed and understands more than 3,000 documents on topics exclusive to military transitions, enabling members to ask and receive answers to separation-related questions.

"Putting Watson into the hands of consumers is a critical milestone toward improving how we work and live. USAA's application is a prime example of how Watson's cognitive intellect has the potential to empower individuals and organisations," IBM Watson Group SVP Mike Rhodin said.
