Truecaller Joins Forces with Khyaal to Shield Seniors from Rising Scam Threats
  • Truecaller, Khyaal team up to fight scams targeting seniors.
  • 50% off Truecaller Premium for Khyaal users.
  • Scam alerts and safety workshops launched via app and events.

With growing digital adoption among India's elderly population, there is also increasing exposure to scams. A large number of people above the age of 50 are exposed to increased risks as a result of limited experience with changing technology and more urbane fraud strategies. This makes them more susceptible to monetary losses and compromised trust in online transactions.

To meet this need, international communication platform Truecaller has partnered with digital-native platform Khyaal, specifically designed for elderly citizens, to drive safer digital lives through the use of caller identification capabilities coupled with awareness outreach.

Under this alliance, every member of Khyaal shall be able to avail of a 50% discount on Truecaller Premium, which offers improved spam-blocking capabilities and other security tools to protect mobiles. Beyond this, the tie-up will implement a series of anti-scam measures, including:

  • "New Scam Highlights" sessions that educate consumers about new fraud methods
  • "Spot the Scam" workshops aimed at creating useful awareness
  • Instructions on handling unknown calls, and
  • Testimonial learning from Khyaal members who managed to evade scams

These will be made available both online and offline through the Khyaal app and at community events.

The alliance will also feature prominently in Khyaal's soon-to-be-launched "50Above50" event, where it seeks to enhance digital security among seniors through awareness workshops, interactive exhibits, and one-on-one assistance.

Though Truecaller's free version is available to use, Premium adds more advanced protection features that would greatly serve older users who are trying to navigate the digital universe.

“The digital era opens up incredible possibilities for seniors connection, convenience, and community. But it also introduces new risks. We’ve heard too many heartbreaking accounts of scams affecting the elderly. Our partnership with Khyaal empowers them with the tools and knowledge needed to stay safe,” said Rishit Jhunjhunwala, Global CEO of Truecaller.

Hemanshu Jain, co-founder and CEO of Khyaal, echoed these sentiments:

“Scams are silently eroding the savings and confidence of our seniors. The emotional toll is immense. At Khyaal, we’ve long recognized the need to educate and empower this community. Partnering with Truecaller allows us to scale our impact and ensure more seniors stay informed and protected.”

Truecaller blocked and flagged over 56 billion unwanted calls in 2024 alone. With more than 450 million active users worldwide, the platform has remained at the forefront of mobile identity verification since its listing on Nasdaq Stockholm in 2021. Based in Stockholm since 2009, it has passed one billion downloads across the globe.

Khyaal, started in 2020 by Hemanshu Jain and Pritish Nelleri, today has a user base of more than 3 million. It provides all kinds of services right from games and workshops to money management tools and holiday packages all specifically designed for users aged above 50. The app also keeps the younger members connected and support their older relatives.

This strategic alliance is an important step in the direction of building a secure online space for India's elderly citizens, blending technological innovation with grass-root awareness to beat the growing momentum of scams.
