Skye Air Launches Ultra-Fast Drone Deliveries in Bengaluru
Skye Air, the hyperlocal drone delivery network, has rolled out its super-speed service in Bengaluru, becoming the second Indian city, after Gurugram, to embrace cutting-edge drone logistics. People living in the Konankunte and Kanakapura Road neighborhoods will soon have their goods delivered within a mere seven minutes, reflecting the quick pace of drone technology development in urban logistics.
The company said that the entry of drone deliveries in Bengaluru is expected to revolutionize the e-commerce and ultra-fast commerce space, providing speed, efficiency, and sustainability. Bengaluru is the second city in India to move towards drone-powered ultra-fast commerce with this entry, opening up huge growth possibilities across the country.
Skye Air stated that its clients are Bluedart, DTDC, Shiprocket, Ecom Express, and Shree Maruti. The company currently processes deliveries for e-commerce and quick-commerce, and will soon start food delivery.
"Integrating drone delivery technology into last-mile logistics is not simply a matter of speed; it is about building sustainable and efficient ecosystems". Our entry in Bengaluru indicates a strong push for greener and quicker delivery options that create value for companies as well as customers", says Ankit Kumar, founder and CEO, Skye Air. "With every drone flight, we are not only enhancing productivity — we are setting the ground for a sustainable, greener, and brighter logistics future to come". The firm announced that this marks the beginning of a national revolution in trade, where drone delivery is the new standard rather than the exception.
The service is powered by Skye Ship One, Skye Air's lead delivery drone which is optimized for high-capacity flight. The drone carries 10 kg per trip and travels a three-dimensional Skye Tunnel — an unseen air lane at 120 metres AGL to avoid traffic snarls and lessen transit times.
When it arrives at its destination, the drone descends to 20 metres and deploys the Skye Winch system, gently lowering the package to the intended Skye Pod or drop point. After making the delivery, the drone automatically releases the package and heads back to its point of origin via the same path. The whole process takes less than seven minutes.
Skye Ship One has advanced safety features, such as an onboard parachute system that offers a backup layer of protection in the event of unexpected failures.
An integrated 5G module provides real-time connectivity for improved navigation, tracking, and communication. There is also a Skye UTM Black Box, which records important mission data, such as flight performance, system diagnostics, and environmental conditions, further improving operational integrity.
Drone deliveries are not only quicker and more economical they are also a sustainability game-changer.
With every delivery through Skye Air's drone, there is a saving of 520 grams of carbon emissions over the conventional road-based method. For example, for every month, 5,000 drone deliveries for each route equate to 2.6 metric tonnes of CO₂ saved. In a year, that is 31 metric tonnes of CO₂ avoided per route. If expanded to over 100 routes throughout the country, CO₂ savings amount to 3,100 metric tonnes a year equivalent to planting more than 150,000 trees a year.
