Rapido Bites into Food Delivery with Low-Cost 'Ownly' App
  • Rapido launches Ownly food delivery app in Bengaluru’s Koramangala and HSR Layout, offering low-cost, no-hidden-fee service.
  • Unique no-commission model for restaurants with flat subscription fees and mandatory affordable meal options under Rs 150.
  • Visibility based on customer ratings, not paid promotions, with eateries gaining access to valuable customer data.
Rapido, the ride-hailing giant, has officially forayed into the food delivery market with the launch of its dedicated app, Ownly, now live on the Google Play Store. The service is currently operational in Bengaluru’s Koramangala and HSR Layout, marking its first step into a space dominated by Swiggy and Zomato.
Positioning itself as a transparent, value-driven alternative, Ownly charges only GST and a flat Rs 20 delivery fee for orders above Rs 99, with no hidden costs. On the restaurant side, Rapido is breaking industry norms by adopting a flat subscription fee instead of commissions per order Rs 25 for orders worth Rs 400 and below, and Rs 50 for higher-value orders.
Restaurants will not be allowed to levy separate packaging charges and must maintain dine-in menu prices. They can either use their own delivery staff or tap into Rapido’s extensive rider network at no additional cost. To ensure affordability for customers, every partner restaurant must list at least four dishes priced under Rs 150 in a dedicated Meals for One section.
Unlike rival platforms, Ownly’s restaurant visibility will be based solely on customer ratings, not paid promotions. Additionally, partner eateries will gain access to customer data a rare offering in the industry.
Following months of pilot testing and onboarding restaurants, Rapido is now ready to put its disruptive, low-cost model to the test in Bengaluru’s competitive food delivery landscape.
