Public Service Broadcaster Prasar Bharati Signs MoU with OTT Platform YuppTV

Prasar Bharati, a public service broadcaster, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with YuppTV, an over-the-top (OTT) platform that serves as a global gateway for television viewers.

Shashi Shekhar Vempati, CEO of Prasar Bharati, and Uday Reddy, creator and CEO of YuppTV, inked the content hosting deal.

Prasar Bharati hopes to use this initiative to broaden the global reach of the DD India channel, to present the country's perspective on major international happenings on global platforms, and to exhibit the world its culture and values.

DD India is now available on YuppTV's OTT platform across the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, the Middle East, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand, according to the company.

DD India, a Prasar Bharati international channel, is India's window to the rest of the world. The station provides worldwide viewers with the country's perspective on all internal and global events through its numerous programmes.

It's available in over 190 countries and serves as a link between India and its global diaspora.

Through analysis and discussion, opinions, and visual presentation, DD India broadcasts about India-related problems. Bio-Quest, focused on in-depth analysis and research, is one of the channel's most popular series, according to the channel, while India Ideas, DD Dialogue, World Today, Indian Diplomacy, and News Night are some of the other popular shows.

The move is thought to be motivated by the growing popularity of OTT services in India. Several broadcasters, including Star India, Zee Entertainment, Tata Play, and Sony Pictures, have established themselves on OTT platforms in order to increase audience engagement with their shows and networks.

Surprisingly, Ranveer Allahabadia and Dhruv Rathee, YouTubers turned influencers, have invested in the company.

Pocket FM, another OTT platform, raised $65 million in a Series C fundraising round led by Goodwater Capital, Naver, and an existing investor, Tanglin Venture Partners. The money will be used to expand into new languages, add AI to the app, and grow the company's existing audio creative community.

The country's long-running DD India channel partnering with an OTT platform is a sure sign of things to come in the future. The scene is set for businesses like Pocket FM, STAGE, and others to grow their user base of streaming content, thanks to deeper internet coverage, affordable bandwidth, and Indian young consumers.
