No matter how rigorous negotiation is going one, take regular intervals. Make sure that you never go more than 90 – 120 minutes without a break. Take short breaks of 10 – 15 minutes and if possible take your opposition along with you. It is a good way to do away with the tension that has mounted up in the room and to get to know more about those who are negotiating with you. Abstain from talking about the deal or anything related to the negotiation, and keep the conversation casual. Relax yourself and your team so that you can continue your negotiation refreshed. Once all the frustration, anger and tension are gone the negotiation will be much smoother and productive. Think of this break as a part of the process, a part that contributes to the success of it.
