In order to Input next-gen AI technology in its devices, Apple locks a deal with DarwinAI

Multi billionaire tech giant Apple has recently signed a deal with Canada-based DarwinAI, which specializes in vision-based tech to observe components during manufacturing to improve efficiency. After sudden jump of AI in the tech market, Apple was envisioning to enter into the world next generation technology.

As per the report, the iPhone maker has added dozens of DarwinAI employees to its own AI team following the acquisition earlier this year. The report says that, the AI operated system of Darwin AI will help Apple in its efforts to run AI on devices instead of in the cloud.

DarwinAI had raised over $15 million in funding across various rounds from notable investors including BDC Capital’s Deep Tech Venture Fund, Honeywell Ventures, Obvious Ventures, and Inovia Capital. BDC Capital confirms on its website that it has received an exit from DarwinAI, whereas Obvious Venture has updated its portfolio to reflect that the startup has been acquired.

Bloomberg’s report suggests that, an AI researcher at the University of Waterloo, named Alexander Wong has joined the team of Apple as a director. The company is focusing on AI technology for manufacturing and supply chain uses. DarwinAI uses techniques to make AI models smaller and faster. This could be useful for on-device generative AI features Apple hopes to introduce in iOS 18 this year.

During a quarterly earnings Tim Cook said, “We continue to spend a tremendous amount of time and effort and we’re excited to share the details of our ongoing work in that space later this year.”

As per the report, Apple is soon going to launch several AI-powered services and products at WWDC in June, which might include an upgraded version of Siri, AI features in Messages, Apple Music and some features on iPhone.

Recently Apple has launched the MacBook Air M3 which is termed as world’s best consumer laptop for AI. The company announced that, MacBook Air can also run optimized AI models, including large language models and diffusion models for image generation locally. Tim Cook assured that, Apple will “break new ground” in generative AI this year.
