Gujarat Tops with 91,000 DPIIT-Recognized Startups
The DPIIT under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industries has officially acknowledged more than 91,000 startups in Gujarat. Emphasizing Gujarat's significant position in the startup landscape, a government announcement confirmed the state's consistent top-ranking status in 2018, 2019, and 2021. The statement credited the achievement to Gujarat's creation of a conducive environment supporting the growth of startups and entrepreneurship, primarily due to the implementation of a strong mentoring system for startups.
Additionally, Gujarat received the Prime Minister’s Award for Exceptional Public Administration due to its outstanding implementation of the Startup India initiative. In a dedicated effort to foster startup ecosystems, over 300 mentors have enlisted on the state government's platform to actively guide and support startups. Noteworthy is the government's allocation of Rs 43 crore to 390 startups, collectively responsible for over 125 patent filings, according to the statement.
The state's approach to establishing a favorable mentoring environment involves partnerships with key institutions like the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development Network, Entrepreneurship Development Institute, Gujarat Venture Finance Limited, iCreate, iACE, and iHub. These entities play a pivotal role in providing both technical expertise and financial backing to startups, significantly contributing to the overall success of Gujarat's entrepreneurial landscape.
