EaseMyTrip enters EV market by investing Rs.200 crore for EV Bus Manufacturing

EaseMyTrip, an online travel ticket booking platform, has announced its expansion into the electric bus manufacturing sector with the launch of its new subsidiary, Easy Green Mobility.

According to the company, its new division will be responsible for producing electric buses while YoloBus (which is also a subsidiary of EaseMyTrip) will handle operations.

EaseMyTrip is investing 200 crore, or approximately $24 million, in extensive research and development, product development, and establishing a manufacturing plant over the next 2-3 years.

Rikant Pittie, Co-Founder of EaseMyTrip, mentioned,"In the next decade, annual demand for electric buses is projected to reach 125,000 to 150,000 units. The current market conditions offer a significant opportunity to boost supply and address this growing demand by localizing production and developing a fully 'Make-In-India' product."

The Indian electric bus market is anticipated to expand at a CAGR of 24% from 2024 to 2030.

EaseMyTrip stated that launching Easy Green Mobility is part of its strategy to secure a substantial share of the emerging market and capitalize on the increasing demand for electric vehicles (EVs) in India.

Pittie added, "The government's support for electric bus adoption through the FAME scheme, state-level policies, and PLI schemes is driving progress across the country. By launching our new subsidiary, Easy Green Mobility, we aim to complement these efforts and contribute to India’s goal of becoming a global leader in green mobility. Additionally, this initiative aligns with our plans to diversify our business and establish a strong presence in the expanding EV and eMobility sector."

The company will focus on producing state-of-the-art vehicles featuring advanced technology and energy-efficient battery systems designed for long-range travel on a single charge.

According to the release, Easy Green Mobility will initially establish a plant with a capacity to produce 4,000-5,000 buses and plans to increase production capacity in the future.

Through its subsidiary Easy Green Mobility, EaseMyTrip will manage YoloBus, which seeks to transform intercity bus travel in India by providing exceptional services.

YoloBus currently operates on over 250 routes nationwide and has already served more than 100,000 passengers.

Furthermore, EaseMyTrip aims to expedite the shift to net-zero carbon mobility with YoloBus, setting a goal to deploy over 2,000 electric buses across the country by 2027-28.
