Assam introduces India's first all-electric bike taxi service 'Baayu'
The Assam government introduced 'Baayu', an app-driven electric bike taxi service, representing a pioneering and sustainable mobility initiative by the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC). Assam's Transport Minister, Parimal Suklabaidya, inaugurated the app-based electric bike taxi service in Guwahati, the state capital. This event marked the unveiling of India's initial app-based decentralized bike taxi services, completely powered by electricity. Baayu, a collaboration between ASTC and Bikozee Ecotech, a local startup in Assam, is launching the country's premier 100% electric and decentralized bike taxi services, marking a significant advancement in eco-friendly transportation solutions integrated with ONDC.
Baayu's initiative starts with emission-free bike taxi and delivery services, aiming to create 5,000 job opportunities for drivers in Assam. They provide electric vehicles, technology platforms, insurance, training, skill development, and operational licenses in alignment with Assam Aggregator regulations of 2022. This effort is anticipated to prevent an impressive 29,000 tons of carbon emissions yearly and save around Rs 73 crore annually on fuel expenses.
The Shoonya Zero pollution mobility campaign, "Baayu - Clean Air Movement," orchestrated by ASTC, aims to enhance city air quality and public health by integrating electric vehicles into transportation and logistics. This involves implementing decentralized technologies following the Beckn protocol to establish digital public infrastructures on the ONDC platform. Baayu, a pioneering sustainable mobility initiative launched by Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) in collaboration with Bikozee Ecotech Pvt. Ltd., has been intricately crafted to revolutionize Assam's transportation framework.
