Ashwini Vaishnaw Launches 'Made-in-India' Android-based app store 'Indus'

Leading fintech and digital payments leader PhonePe declared that Union IT and Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw is all set to inaugurate Indus Appstore, the first-ever ‘Made-in-India’ Android-based app store on February 21.

The minister, being a strong proponent of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat', will personally witness the remarkable stride towards self-sufficiency achieved by the innovative app store.

In a statement to the media, the company stated, “In a global-first move, the Indian startup ecosystem will come together at the milestone launch to challenge the technological, commercial and distribution monopoly of global players, and democratize the Android app marketplace.”

The Indus Appstore event will over 300 members from the startup and developer communities empowered by the app marketplace.

The minister's decision to personally witness the remarkable stride towards self-sufficiency achieved by the innovative app store reflects the government's commitment to promoting 'Atmanirbhar Bharat'. This visit will not only celebrate the achievements of Indian developers and entrepreneurs but also inspire others to contribute towards building a self-reliant India.

The event will underscore  the app store's foundation journey, offering an inner perspective on the vision, strategic choices and technical complexities while building the Appstore.

According to the statement given by Phonepay, the panel discussions were enlightened with speakers from the Indian business and developer community will ignite meaningful conversations and provide critical insights.

Indus Appstore aims to offer users a personalized, contextual, and localized experience through its wide range of categories. It is accessible in English as well as 12 other Indian languages, enabling users to explore the App store in their preferred language.

According to the statement given by the company, “It provides a self-publishing platform, localization services, and multiple tools to monitor and grow their apps along with a dedicated 24×7 customer support."

PhonePe, the foremost consumer payments app in India, boasts an impressive user base of over 510 million registered individuals. Additionally, it has established a vast network of 38 million merchants who accept digital payments.

The app efficiently handles a staggering number of transactions, processing over 220 million on a daily basis. Notably, the annualized total payment value (TPV) of these transactions amounts to a remarkable $1.4 trillion.
