Mumbai based Craftsvilla Raises $15 Million in Series A Funding


Bangalore: In less than a year of receiving their early stage seed funding from Nexus Venture Partners and Light Speed Venture Partners, Mumbai based Craftsvilla.com an ecommerce portal which sells handcrafted and green crafted products have announced that they are receiving $15 Million as series A funding from the same venture firms in India. Krihba Handicraft which wholly owns Craftsvilla plans to use the funds to expand operations in Thailand and Indonesia.

Founded by the couple duo Manoj Gupta and Monica Gupta in 2011, the site has receive tremendous response across the globe and has over 50,000 products from over 1,000 Indian sellers on its site, and it’s shipping to over 20 countries worldwide. Socially active Craftsvilla with its Facebook and Pintrest has taken the internet and all the connected facilities rather than getting the artisans to come online.

‘India has low penetration of Internet access and less awareness about selling things online in general’ says Manoj and he also added ‘It means that we need to innovate on how to bring all the artisans and designers online and we thought the best way is to take the Internet to them’ while in a conversation with TechCrunch.
