Flipkart Expands Into Fashion, Eyes On Startups Zovi And YepMe

Bangalore: Indian e-tail giant Flipkart, after electronics and books is now eyeing for a bigger share of the online fashion market by launching Flippd. The new service currently is offering men's apparel and footwear but is soon to expand into other fashion content for women, children, sunglasses and watches by the end of the first quarter. To further strengthen its position, the Bangalore based e-retailer is apparently planning to acquire the smaller players like Zovi and YepMe who have considerable presence in online fashion segment.

Flipkart was already into selling apparels, which it started some time back in last year. The latest launch and possible acquisitions are apparently viewed as Flipkart’s ambitious target of about 6,200 crore sales by 2015, reports Times Of India.  The fashion labels generally have the margin as large as 60 percent on labels and 45 percent on branded apparels in comparison to the electronics’ feeble 10 percent margin.

Jewelry is another such category with high margin gains what Flipkart has embarked on recently. It is the second brand that was offered by the e-tailer who had launched DigiFlip, a range of electronic accessories like chargers, speakers and mobile cases.
