Flipkart Exes Team-up to Form a New Health and Fitness Start-up

BENGALURU: Mukesh Bansal, Co-founder of online fashion merchant Myntra, and Ankit Nagori, ex Chief Business Officer (CBO) at Flipkart, have recently collaborated together in order to set up a healthcare, sports and fitness enterprise. The announcement comes barely six weeks since Bansal, and Nagori both resigned from their respective positions at the country's largest online retailer.

The new undertaking is expected to be starting up with an initial investment of USD 5 million (INR 33 crore) and will be based out of Bangalore. It is expected to have two divisions—one for healthcare and one for sports and fitness.

"The idea with sports and fitness is how to inspire 100 million people to take on health and fitness. We are looking at everything from offline facilities to technology," said Bansal who cofounded Myntra in 2007. He further added that sports and fitness brands such as Puma, Nike and Decathlon are their potential partners.

"With healthcare, there are multiple problems to be solved. We are still working on it," Bansal said. The startup will primarily aim at aggregating the estimated $300-million healthcare market utilizing technology. The duo is also on the look-out for partnership opportunities with established players in the healthcare segment.

Vidhya Shankar, partner alliance head of Nasscom's 10,000 Startups programme, noted that Bansal and Nagori’s experience may help them institute their new venture.
