Startup India Goes Rural Through Deen Dayal Upadhyay Swaniyojan Yojana

BENGALURU: In an initiative to develop rural areas of India, Startup India campaign is planning to span its roots in rural areas through Deen Dayal Upadhyay Swaniyojan Yojana. Rural development ministry backed by MUDRA Bank loans will be the brains behind the initiative and innovative credit linkages and self-help groups will provide the support.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Initiative of Startup India is forming the basis of Swaniyojan Yojana as various rural youths are looking forward for self employment options. The Swaniyojan Yojana is planning on providing these youths the incentives to establish themselves as entrepreneurs.

The scheme will help fresh entrepreneurs in various fields in building their basic business skill-set. The government will provide credit linkages and incubation centers to encourage the self-employment among people of rural areas. The Micro Units Development and Refinance Agency (MUDRA) Bank monitors funding for micro and small enterprises.

India’s rural households are landless and subsequently depend on manual labor for their wages and income according to a government census. There is an alarming rise of poverty and a need of skill development among rural poor to encourage self-employment. The new scheme will be funded by the existing National Rural Livelihood Mission of the rural development ministry.

The authorities have urged the rural people to come out of their agricultural occupation and look for new possibilities in the field of entrepreneurship. Textiles, animal husbandry and food processing government departments are also being approached by the rural development ministry to help and coordinate with rural poor people to set up the organizations over different segments.

Existing Deen Dayal Upadhyay Grameen Kaushal Yojana (DDUGKY) will form the basis of this scheme but it would focus more on self-employment than generating placements. Training in the field of beauty, masonry, horticulture and agriculture will be conducted through this self-employment programme.
