Embibe Secures Funding From Kalaari And Lightbox

BANGALORE: Embibe, an education portal that assists students in preparing for competitive exams like IIT JEE and BITSAT has managed to secure a fresh round of funding worth $4million. The investment was initiated by Kalaari Capital and Lightbox Ventures, which is a new comer in the sector, as reported by Times of India.

Founded by Aditi Avasthi, Embibe provides exam specific contents to students preparing for all major engineering entrance exams that boast of having an ex-IITian as part of its faculty. The Mumbai based startup took off in 2012 and is planning to forge ahead into least explored markets like China packing, a vast collection of medical exam preparation tests. Embibe currently boasts of over 15,000 registered users even when other startups including Toppr.com, Vedantu.com and Edutor are actively present in the market. "We differentiate ourselves on the basis on our strong data platform," Avasthi said. The advancement of technology is finding more people turning up for online tutorials.

"As the overall market grows we may take some share away from the traditional players but a lot of it will be supplementary. A student spends majority of his/her time at home and that's why preparing online is crucial for them," said Siddharth Talwar, a partner at Lightbox.

The investment will be mainly utilized to strengthen the student-teacher network at Embibe. Expanding the resource database by including more exams and researching on how to improve the presence are also included in the agenda.
