Bengaluru Is Now World's Youngest Startup Ecosystem


BENGALURU: Bengaluru, the tech hub of India, yet again made it to the news for its young and lively work culture. The city ranked top as ‘The Youngest Startup Ecosystem ‘in the world with entrepreneurs having an average age of 28.5 years according to survey carried out for the top 10 global startups. The Silicon Valley of India beat the original Silicon Valley where the average age of entrepreneurs was calculated to be 36.2 years, reports ET.

Cities like Kuala Lumpur, Sao Paulo and Berlin raced close to Bengaluru having an average founder’s age of 30.5, 31.7 and 31.8 years respectively. Sydney, however, was reported to have the highest average age for founders. The survey was carried out by a startup benchmarking firm, Compass, based in San Francisco.

Young talents are increasingly stepping into the entrepreneurial world in India. The country with the youngest population in the world is evolving in every sector of the economy and startups are no exceptions. Bengaluru is taken by storm with numerous entrepreneurs and their new ventures based on innovative models like on-demand, internet and social.

"This industry itself is only five years old and a person with 15 or more years of experience or knowledge will not add value. Youngsters will understand them better. Venture capitalists also prefer younger entrepreneurs, those who are around 30 years of age," he said.

The Indian city earned the distinction of being the 15th-best startup ecosystem in the world. Bengaluru, Sydney and Singapore were the only cities from Asia-Pacific to have found mention in the survey.

Bengaluru was also amongst the cities to have shown the greatest growth in exits, VC investments and the number of seed investments. The city ranked second on the growth index following Berlin.
