Rohit Sharma Tops ICC ODI Batting Rankings for the First Time

India’s cricket captain Rohit Sharma has achieved a major career milestone by becoming the No.1 ranked ODI batter in the latest ICC Men’s Rankings, marking the first time he has reached the top spot in his illustrious career.
The 38-year-old climbed two positions after his match-winning unbeaten century (121) in the final ODI against Australia in Sydney, where he led India to a dominant nine-wicket victory. Rohit, alongside Virat Kohli (74, guided the chase in style, smashing 13 fours and three sixes en route to his 33rd ODI century.
With this feat, Rohit surpassed Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran and teammate Shubman Gill, both of whom had previously held the top ranks. The veteran opener has been a consistent performer in ODIs for over a decade, regularly featuring in the top 10 of ICC rankings.
Other Indian players also made progress this week. Axar Patel climbed six spots to 31st in the ODI bowling rankings and moved four places up to eighth among all-rounders. Globally, New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner rose to fourth among bowlers, while Australia’s Josh Hazlewood advanced to eighth.

In Test rankings, South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj gained nine spots to 13th after his Player of the Match performance against Pakistan, with Simon Harmer and Aiden Markram also improving their standings.
Rohit’s rise to the top underlines his enduring class and leadership as India continues to dominate across formats.
