Shreyas Iyer Out of ICU After Rib Injury, Health Still Delicate

Indian cricket vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has been moved out of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at a Sydney hospital after sustaining a serious injury during the third ODI against Australia on Sunday. Sources told that while Iyer is out of immediate danger, his health remains delicate and he will stay in hospital for about a week.

Iyer suffered internal bleeding and a spleen laceration after a hard fall while taking a spectacular catch to dismiss Alex Carey. He was rushed to the hospital after reportedly fainting in the dressing room and showing unstable vital signs. The BCCI Medical Team, along with specialists in Sydney and India, is monitoring his condition closely.

In a statement, the BCCI said, “Shreyas Iyer sustained an impact injury to his left lower rib cage. Scans revealed a laceration injury to the spleen. He is medically stable and recovering well”. The board confirmed that the Indian team doctor will remain in Sydney to oversee his recovery.

Reports also mentioned that Iyer has been receiving support from friends in Australia, and a family member is expected to travel from Mumbai soon.

While the incident could have turned fatal, doctors and the BCCI have confirmed that Iyer is stable and responding positively to treatment. Fans and teammates continue to send wishes for his speedy recovery.
