Virat Kohli made a much-awaited return to the Ranji Trophy after 12 years as Delhi won the toss and opted to bowl first against Railways in their Elite Group D match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Thursday.
The last time Kohli played in the tournament was in November 2012 for Delhi against Uttar Pradesh in Ghaziabad. It goes in tandem with the push from the BCCI for available Indian players to play in domestic cricket. Returnees have received immense fan attention, and on the first day, fans reached the stadium at 3 AM, compelling officials to open entry gates beyond those available.
Delhi is placed sixth in the group standings with 14 points, but the road to knockouts would not be easy. Not even a straight win against fourth place Railways would guarantee them promotion.
Railways, with Suraj Ahuja replacing the injured Pratham Singh, will look to consolidate their position. Delhi made some significant changes, with Kohli replacing Jonty Sidhu, Rishabh Pant making way for Pranav Rajvanshi, and Money Grewal replacing left-arm spinner Harsh Tyagi.
Playing XIs:

All eyes will be on Kohli as he takes the field in domestic red-ball cricket after more than a decade with excitement at an all-time high.
