India’s Women Cricket Team Honoured by President and PM

President Droupadi Murmu met the Indian Women’s ODI World Cup winning team at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi and congratulated them for their historic victory.
“Members of the Indian Women Cricket team, winners of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The President congratulated the team and said that they have created history and become role models for the younger generation. She said this team reflects India, representing different regions, social backgrounds, and circumstances, yet uniting as one team India”, the official handle of the President of India wrote on X.
During the meeting, captain Harmanpreet Kaur presented the President with an Indian jersey signed by all players.
The Women in Blue lifted their maiden ICC trophy by defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai, on Sunday night. Earlier, on Wednesday evening, the team met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence at Lok Kalyan Marg. PM Modi congratulated the players, praised their remarkable comeback in the tournament after three league-stage defeats, and acknowledged the challenges they faced, including social media trolling. The team gifted him a signed Indian jersey.
Celebrations continued in New Delhi, with players like Jemimah Rodrigues, Radha Yadav, and Sneh Rana dancing to dhol beats at their hotel, cheered on by staff and guests.
After their engagements with the President and the Prime Minister, the players and support staff will return to their respective hometowns. Shafali Verma, Player of the Match in the final, will head to Nagaland to lead the North Zone side in the ongoing Inter Zonal T20 tournament.
Former India bowler Shahbaz Nadeem described the meetings with the President and Prime Minister as encouraging, noting that such recognition comes only after achieving something remarkable. India ended a 52-year wait for a major ICC trophy in senior women’s cricket, and this historic triumph is expected to inspire a new generation of women cricketers in the country.
