India's shooting contingent delivered a stellar performance at the recently concluded ISSF World Cup 2025 in Munich, bagging four medals two gold and two bronze to finish third in the overall points table behind only China and Norway. The Indian shooters' precision, consistency, and composure were on full display as they continued their winning momentum in the international shooting arena.
The medal journey for India began with two-time Olympian Elavenil Valarivan, who clinched a bronze medal in the women’s 10m air rifle event. The 25-year-old showcased world-class marksmanship, scoring 231.2 in the final to claim the third spot. Valarivan’s performance was further highlighted by her remarkable qualification score of 635.9, which set a new national record.
Joining her in the bronze medal tally was 23-year-old Sift Kaur Samra in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions category. Sift, who holds the world record in this event with 469.6 points at the 2022 Asian Games, maintained her reputation as a consistent performer. She posted a final score of 453.1 to secure her spot on the podium. This follows her gold-medal-winning performance in the same event at the Buenos Aires leg of the World Cup earlier this year.
India’s first gold medal in Munich came through a sensational display by 19-year-old Suruchi Singh in the women’s 10m air pistol event. The rising star held her nerves in a pressure-packed final to register a winning score of 241.9. This victory marks Suruchi’s third consecutive gold in this year’s ISSF World Cup circuit, having previously triumphed in Buenos Aires and Lima. "It feels surreal to win my third consecutive ISSF World Cup gold”, she said after the event. “The competition here in Munich was intense, but I focused on my technique and stayed calm. I am incredibly grateful for the support from my coaches and the entire team. I am looking forward to winning more such medals and making my country proud”.
The gold medal tally was further boosted by the impressive performance of Arjun Singh Babuta and Arya Borse in the 10m air rifle mixed team event. The Indian duo showcased exceptional coordination and skill, defeating China’s Wang Zifei and Sheng Lihao 17-7 in the final. Though the Chinese pair had set a new qualification world record with 635.9 points, the Indian team’s 635.2 in the qualifiers and their commanding final round display underscored India’s growing strength in team events.
The President of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, congratulated the team and emphasized continued support. “We are incredibly proud of our shooters’ remarkable achievements at the ISSF World Cup in Munich. Their dedication, hard work, and consistent performances continue to bring laurels to the nation”, he said. “With our shooters making the nation proud around the world, we are even more excited to watch them in action when the inaugural edition of the Shooting League of India kicks off later this year”.
A total of 36 Indian shooters participated in the Munich World Cup, which was the third leg of the 2025 ISSF World Cup series. India had previously secured eight medals four gold, two silver, and two bronze in Buenos Aires, and seven medals two gold, four silver, and one bronze in Lima. The Indian shooting team will next compete in the Ningbo, China leg of the ISSF World Cup in September, aiming to continue their remarkable form on the global stage.
