  • Pakistan suffer second straight defeat in tough conditions.

India put on a commanding performance to defeat Pakistan by 88 runs in their ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 match in Colombo. The win takes India to the top of the group stage table with two wins from two matches.

Batting first, India posted 247 runs before being bowled out on the final delivery of the innings. The pitch had been under covers for two days due to rain, making it tough for batters, but India managed to build partnerships through patient innings from Pratika Rawal (23), Smriti Mandhana (31), and Harleen Deol (45). Richa Ghosh added a quick 35 down the order.

Despite no batter reaching fifty, the total was India’s highest in ODIs without a half-century. Pakistan’s Diana Baig took 4 wickets but conceded 69 runs in her 10 overs.

In reply, Pakistan crumbled under pressure. Indian seamer Kranti Goud starred with figures of 3 for 20, troubling the top order with swing. Pakistan slumped to 26 for 3 early and couldn’t recover, eventually bowled out well short of the target. Sidra Amin tried to anchor the chase with support from Natalia Pervaiz, but the scoring rate was too slow and wickets fell steadily.

The match was played in front of high interest due to the rivalry between the two nations. However, political tensions off the field also meant there were no handshakes between the teams before or after the game.

With this win, India stay unbeaten and will next face South Africa. Pakistan, still winless, prepare to take on defending champions Australia in Colombo.
