Trophy Drama Erupts After India's Asia Cup Win Over Pakistan
- Indian team refuses to accept Asia Cup trophy from ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi
- Trophy and medals taken away after ceremony stalls
- BCCI to lodge protest at upcoming ICC meet
A day after India lifted the Asia Cup 2025 with a thrilling 5 wicket win over Pakistan, the spotlight shifted from the cricket field to the post-match presentation drama. The Indian team refused to receive the trophy and medals from Mohsin Naqvi, the ACC chairman, who is also Pakistan’s Interior Minister and PCB chief.
The match had ended in celebration, with players and their families walking onto the field, enjoying the victory moment. But tension grew near the presentation podium as the Indian side stayed away, reportedly uncomfortable receiving the award from Naqvi due to his past anti-India remarks and political actions.
According to BCCI officials, India had made it clear beforehand that they would accept the trophy from any dignitary except Naqvi. Dubai Sports City’s Khalid Al Zarooni was present and expected to hand over the trophy, but Naqvi didn’t step aside.
As a result, no official trophy handover took place, and after a 90 minute delay, the ACC staff left the venue with the trophy and medals. India’s players still celebrated briefly near the stage and took photos, without the silverware.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia called the situation 'unfortunate' and demanded that the trophy and medals be returned immediately. He also confirmed the board will raise a formal protest at the November ICC meeting in Dubai.
Meanwhile, Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha backed Naqvi, stating he had every right to present the trophy as ACC chief.
