Top 5 Waterfalls in India

Athirappilly Waterfalls (Kerala)

Known as the Niagra of India, this popular waterfall is located in Athirappilly Panchayath, Chalakudi.  Originating from the upper reaches of Western Ghats, it has an elevation of 120m. The 145km long Chalakudi River flows through the Vazhachal Forest towards the Arabian Sea and once it nears Athirappily, the water gets gushed around the big rocks and cascades down in three different plumes.

About seven million visitors visit the falls each year and daily jungle safaris are organized by Thrissur District Tourism Promotion Council. The best time to visit the waterfalls is during the monsoon (June- September).
