NAVI: The New Mini-Bike from Honda

Rolled out in three variants namely-Street, Adventure and off-road, the bike is available in five colors—Patriot Red, Hooper Green, Shasta White, Sparky Orange and Black. As in Activa, the power comes from single cylinder, 110cc, four stroke SI engine generating 5.4KW and 9Nm. With a ground clearance of 156mm and weight gauging 101 kg, NAVI is adept at taking up any road in the country. Honda’s NAVI is among the six new models that have been designed at the company’s R&D unit in India. Honda is offering a number of customization options on NAVI, allowing the customers to make changes to the bike as per their use and liking. With the new models slated to be launched this year, Honda is confident of selling 50 lakh units this year.

Elaborating on the origin of NAVI, Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. said, “With India having the world’s youngest population, it is imperative for brand Honda to connect with the youth. NAVI will take forward Honda’s Fun DNA in India. From business point of view, almost 70% of the two wheelers sold in the country today have engine displacement up to 110cc. However models here, irrespective of their segment are lookalike without much difference in specs or features. Considering the potential and moving away from the ‘Syndrome of Sameness’, Honda R&D India challenged to create ‘New Additional Value for India’-NAVI.”

So, what’s the thought process behind the launch of NAVI? Honda believes that there is market for products like these-in terms of what it represents, not how it looks. That means a two wheeler that is easy to ride, efficient, conservative on power, yet zippy and fun to ride and light on the pocket. Some describe it as a scooter, some call it a bike and others a scooterette. Honda wanted to create a proposition much more attractive than the scooter and one that specifically targets the young buyer; the kind of buyer who does not want to spend too much but still wants their ride to be an expression for themselves. With India being a young nation, Honda seems to be well placed to meet its goal.
