Guru Purnima, celebrated this year on July 10, is a sacred festival dedicated to honouring academic and spiritual mentors. Observed on the full moon day of the Ashadha month, the festival also commemorates the birth anniversary of sage Veda Vyasa, revered as the author of the Mahabharata and compiler of the Vedas.
The day holds spiritual significance for Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Sikhs, and is marked by prayers, teachings, and Guru puja ceremonies across the country.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings on the occasion. “Best wishes to everyone on the special occasion of Guru Purnima”, he wrote on X, acknowledging the invaluable role played by teachers in shaping lives.
