Hong Kong rounds up the tenth position on the list with an index score of 7.80. It is one of the world's leading international financial centers, characterized by low taxation and free trade. It also has one of the highest per capita incomes in the world. Hong Kong has numerous high international rankings in various aspects like economic freedom, financial and economic competitiveness, quality of life, corruption perception, and Human Development Index. It also has the longest life expectancy of any country in the world from 2012.

The index took into consideration how happy people say they are, based on quality of life, things like crime, trust in public institutions and the health of family life. In all, the index took into account fixed factors, such as geography, and other factors like demography, many social and cultural characteristics; and some factors depending on policies and the state of the world economy.
