Once a catholic priest, then a radio broadcaster, Ayres started The World Hunger Year (WHY) with his friend and singer/songwriter Harry Chapin to help the needy with life’s most basic need, food in 1975. The organization helps the poor through charity from celebrities and leaders. Ayres and Chapin believe that poverty and hunger can be uprooted through long-term solutions like supporting and getting involved in community-based organizations.
