Rebuilding Civilization In Uttarakhand Likely to Take Ages

Bangalore: The tragedy that struck temple town of Uttarakhand this year is by far one of the worst natural disasters ever happened in India. This ‘Himalayan Tsunami’ which took away the lives of over ten thousand people, not only destroyed the entire hill town but also affected the state’s economy, reports Hakeem Irfan, DNA.

Though it had been over two months since the calamity, life in the town is still anticipating for returning to normalcy. Over 10,000 families in 366 villages are yet to be rehabilitated and more than 300 roads including major motorable roads in the worst hit areas like Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi and Pithoragarh districts are still blocked making it difficult to access those places.
V.L.S. Kumar, Member of National Disaster Response Team (NDRT) of Indian Red Cross Society said, “The flood has caused extensive damage in Uttarakhand and it will take many years to restore normalcy there. It was disturbing to see the devastation caused by nature,” reports The Hindu.
