Opposition To Test Modi Sarkar in The Winter Session Of Parliament

Regarding the new insurance bill, which seeks to increase FDI to 49 percent in the sector from 26 percent, is at a major risk. The Congress, which has 68 MPs, has indicated to support the bill. Whereas the Janata Dal-United along with the Samajwadi Party, Communist Party of India-Marxist, and the TMC are trying to convince the Congress to join the opposition in the name of 'larger opposition unity.'

However, Kharge denied any opposition to the bill as of now and said that the opposition will depend on the changes that would be proposed.

Nevertheless, the Mint report says, the Congress has "vehemently opposed any changes in the land acquisition law and the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS)."

M. Venkaiah Naidu, parliamentary affairs minister, conveniently downplayed the situation, saying he hoped all parties would "understand the mood of the nation and the spirit of the mandate of the people and cooperate with the government."

Naidu gave a comfortable statement that the government would accommodate the concerns and suggestions of all parties to enable smooth functioning of both the Houses of Parliament.

Narendra Modi, addressed the all-party meeting on the eve of the session and assured the opposition that all important issues can be taken up collectively and hoped that the month-long session would go "very well" like the last budget session—which seems like a wishful thinking as of now.
